24 year-old Hamilton as a university student — who is yet to get her first degree in mathematics — had already gotten a job as a programmer in MIT. As a passionate female geek, she got involved with the apollo space program and was director of software engineering for the project that wrote the code for the Apollo Guide Computer (AGC).
Writing of the Apollo space program for Apollo 11 mission was done in the MIT lab, and the programmers literally had to start from scratch.

It was like the Wild West [an under developed field of study; a branch of science inviting research and development ]There was no course in it. They didn’t teach it.” — HamiltonCombining her motherly role with programming, she would bring her daughter Lauren by the lab on weekends and evenings.
Halmiton and her team wrote the code that made the first moon landing possible. Her team also wrote the code for the first portable computer.
By the 1970s, Hamilton had moved on from NASA and the Apollo program. Hamilton has a company, Hamilton Technologies, very close to MIT.
Mathematician Augusta Ada Byron, better known as Ada Lovelace, born in London on December 10, 1815.
In 1843, Ada became the world’s first computer programmer, at a time where women could hardly access basic education, let alone a scientific one.
charles Babbage is known as the “father of the computer”, Ada Lovelace is honored as the “first computer programmer” . Countess of Lovelace was an English mathematician and writer. In 1833, seventeen year old Ada met Charles Babbage at a party and was captivated when Babbage demonstrated the small working section of the “Difference Engine” to her.
She is chiefly known for her work on Charles Babbage's proposed mechanical general-purpose computer, the Analytical Engine. Ada predicted the computer’s ability to manipulate symbols and make music. And She was the first to recognize that the computing machine had applications beyond pure calculation, and created the first algorithm intended to be carried out by such a machine.
Jean was one of the six female mathematicians, and a lead programmer, who programmed the Eniac( Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer), the first all-electronic digital computer for the army. She studied mathematics in school then began work at the University of Pennsylvania, first manually calculating ballistics trajectories, then using ENIAC to do so. The ENIAC, built to calculate the firing trajectories for artillery shells, could calculate in 30 seconds a trajectory that took a human 20 hours. ENIAC wasn’t finished until after the war in 1946.
Despite the hardwork of jean and her team, the oversight towards jean and her colleagues by the men who built the machine hard ware; and they considered the actual programming of the machine unimportant. Later when the machine was revealed to the public, jean and her team was reasoned insignificant too.
She also worked at BINAC and UNIVAC. She spent time at a variety of technical companies as a writer, manager, engineer and programmer. Jean died in 2011 from congestive heart failure complications.
Barbara Jane Huberman is a Turing award winner; who developed the Liskov substitution principle with Jeannette Wing. Jane is also one of the first women to be granted a doctorate in computer science in the United States. She is a Professor of Engineering at FORD, of their electrical engineering and computer science department. Also a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. And leads the Programming Methodology Group at MIT, with a current research focus on Byzantine fault tolerance and distributed computing
The Liskov she developed has brought about the creation of many other big projects, like the first high-level language to support implementation of distributed programs and to demonstrate the technique of promise pipelining design; the design and implementation of CLU; the Venus operating system, a small, low-cost and interactive timesharing system; an object-oriented database system, Thor.
Grace Hopper was born in New York City in 1906. During World War II, grace joined the U.S. Navy where she was appointed to program the Mark I computer.
In 1952, her team created the first computer language compiler, that led to the creation of the popular programming language, COBOL.
While she was at Harvard as a research fellow, where she worked with the Mark II and Mark III computers, a moth was found to have shorted (short-circuited )out the Mark II, what we call today, “computer bug”. Because of that, she is sometimes given credit for the invention of the term "computer bug", but she didn't actually author the term.
Hopper encouraged young people to learn how to program. As part of her programming achievements, a technical conference formed in her name, The Grace Hopper Celebration of Women In Computing Conference, that encourages women to become part of the world of computing. in addition, a Grace Murray Hopper Award is offered by the Association of Computing Machinery.
The renowned search engine, Google, honored grace hopper on her birthday in 2013 with “a Google Doodle”.
Grace was honored (after death) with the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Barack Obama in 2016.
